On January 30, 2019, Deputy Reed and Deputy Rodriguez were patrolling the 2100 block of Runnels Street when they spotted a vehicle run a stop sign. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver. Deputies could immediately smell alcohol emitting from the driver’s person, the driver’s eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred. Upon exiting the vehicle, the driver also appeared to be unsteady; deputies detained the driver pending further investigation.
While the driver was exiting the vehicle, deputies spotted a firearm that was wedged between the driver’s seat and the center console. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the firearm had one round in the chamber and 15 rounds in the magazine.
Deputies transported the driver to the Houston Southeast Jail for further DWI testing. Deputies contacted the District Attorney’s Office and the charges of Driving While Intoxicated and Unlawful Carry of a Firearm were filed. The driver was transported and booked into the Harris County Jail.
