During a Zero Tolerance initiative, Sergeant Garcia and Sergeant Ipina observed two people in a vehicle smoking marijuana. Deputies noticed a firearm in plain view under the driver's seat. Deputies identified the two males and one was found to have previous convictions of Unlawful Carry of a Weapon, Evading Arrest, and Possession of Marijuana. During a search of the vehicle, deputies recovered approximately 222g of marijuana, a container of wax, and the firearm which had its serial number obscured. On February 19, 2026, Deputy Jimenez and Deputy Gomez-Chavez were conducting a neighborhood safety check near the 3300 block of Lee Street when deputies observed an individual openly smoking what appeared to be a marijuana blunt. As deputies approached and attempted to detain the individual, the suspect grabbed a backpack and tried to walk away before discarding the bag and physically resisting.A search of the discarded backpack revealed 39 baggies of marijuana packaged for distribution, cocaine, methamphetamine, a digital scale, 128 multi-colored pills, and a loaded Glock 21C .45 caliber handgun.The suspect, Trenton McCardell, was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana (State Jail Felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine (3rd Degree Felony), and Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine (2nd Degree Felony). At approximately 4:03 p.m., Deputy Petit-Frere and Deputy Vollenweider initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle left running, facing the wrong direction of traffic. Deputies called for the vehicle to be towed and the suspect exited a business and told deputies that the vehicle was his brother’s car. The male requested to retrieve his backpack out of the vehicle before it was towed away.Upon further investigation, the suspect, Demarion Lavine, was found to have an open warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance.
