At approximately 7:46 PM, Deputy Vollenweider responded to a shoplifting call at Gulfgate Center Mall. The suspect had walked past all points of sale and had exited the building with nearly $600 worth of unpurchased items. A deputy on the scene was attempting to arrest the suspect, who was resisting. Aggravated Kidnapping Suspect Arrested

⚠️ Crime Report | 8-15-2024 📆 | 🌎 Second WardOn August 15, 2024 Sergeant Reed was flagged down near the 1200 block of N. Cesar Chavez for a kidnapping of a 14 year old victim. The individuals identified themselves as the parents of the victim and advised that a suspect male, Ruben Elijah Rodriguez, age 23, drove off with their daughter. Once a plate number was identified, Deputy J. Garcia assisted in tracking down the vehicle and keeping units updated. The suspect dropped off the victim near 2805 Navigation Blvd and proceeded driving north. The victim reported that the suspect threatened to shoot her father if he approached the car. Deputies traced the license plate to an address in Precinct 4. Precinct 4 was alerted to be on the lookout for the vehicle matching the description. Deputy Garza attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the driver initially refused to stop.After the vehicle was stopped, Deputy Garza contacted the driver who had an open knife in his pocket. After further investigation, Sergeant Rodriguez recovered 89.65 grams of Xanax pills and 22.93 grams of a leafy substance. Suspect #2 admitted that they belonged to him, which are illegal without a proper prescription. Suspect #1 was issued 2 citations for Running a Red Light and Unsafe Speed.
