[Fifth Ward 🌎]
On April 14th, Deputy Reed and Deputy Phipps observed a truck near the 3000 block of Baer Street, stopped in the middle of the road for an extended period of time. Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the suspect. The suspect also had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.
Deputies asked the suspect if he would participate in a field sobriety test and he stated “yes.” During the test, Deputies observed 6 clues that are associated with a high blood alcohol concentration. The suspect then became agitated and would not participate in further testing. The suspect was detained and the truck was released to the passenger of the vehicle. Deputies transported the suspect to the Joint Processing Center and the DWI technician conducted further testing, including a breath sample. The breath sample tested over the legal limit and the District Attorney’s Office accepted a charge for Driving While Intoxicated.
Great job Deputy Reed and Deputy Phipps!
